The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The anticipation around the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
